Where possible, we’ll use the Mapstraction open source library, a wrapper for a dozen mapping APIs. Mapstraction has been around almost as long as the first mapping APIs. This workshop will cover Mapstraction version 2, a completely re-worked framework that decreases download size. Previously the code for all providers was downloaded, even if you were only using one. The latest version separates core features of Mapstraction, then loads only the necessary provider code.
Adam DuVander is the Executive Editor of ProgrammableWeb, the premier resource for open Web APIs. He is also the author of Map Scripting 101, a cookbook-style approach to creating geographic maps on the web using Yahoo, Bing and Google Maps.
