Bruce Daniel (Cartifact)
Location: Gold

35 years ago the term “information overload” was introduced… and now we have the ability to plot all that information on a map! How can we do it? How can we design maps to be a medium for information synthesis instead of information overload?

An overview discussion with visuals, examining the elements of effective map design for today’s mapping. The workshop will examine how color, layout, typography and custom design can be employed to better communicate cartographic information and geodata. What graphic techniques are still effective from the days of yore when maps were drawn on hides, parchment and paper? What are the questions that need to be considered when designing online maps and contexts? We’ll break it down and build it up.
