Rob Shanks is the Senior Manager for the ArcGIS Online program at ESRI. ESRI is widely recognized as a world leader in software development for geographic information systems (GIS) and a pioneer in innovative solutions for working with spatial data on the desktop, across the enterprise, in the field, and on the Web.

Mr. Shanks joined ESRI in 2007 and presently helps lead ESRI’s global online GIS software and services strategy. In addition, he provides leadership for geographic content initiatives as well as business direction.

Before joining ESRI, Mr. Shanks founded and served as President & CEO of GlobeXplorer, LLC, one of the World’s foremost online geographic web service and software companies. Mr. Shanks led product and sales teams that delivered Internet based mapping, search, content, and navigation services to both consumers and businesses. Mr. Shanks also provided technology oversight for all information systems and helped develop an advanced data center with large-scale computing capabilities. Mr. Shanks helped grow the company from a small startup to a large annual revenue base with solid profitability. The company was acquired by Digital Globe, Inc. in 2007. Prior to GlobeXplorer, Mr. Shanks served as Vice President for HJW GeoSpatial, Inc. a leading GIS mapping and photogrammetric engineering firm.

Mr. Shanks has extensive experience in implementing geographic information system and provides senior product leadership and vision to ESRI. His passion has been to build energetic, focused teams that create innovative, market-leading products around Desktop, Server, Mobile, and Web technologies.

His hobbies include mountain biking, music, and classic car restoration.
