Bruce Daniel (Cartifact)
General
Location: Regency Ballroom

An exploration of how purely visual maps have been part of describing “Where” from earliest times through today’s online and mobile mapping platforms.

A visual tour of maps old and new reveals different approaches to visualizing location that rely solely on form and display to communicate.

This 15 minute presentation comprises an abundance of images to make the case that effective maps go far beyond the metrics and data to communicate a sense of place. Perspective, lighting, color and emotion convey important aspects of a given location. The presentation is geared to expand dialogue beyond the technical and data orientation that is so prevalent in current location based services and applications.
