Bradley Digital 4-Rack Smoker

About the size of a small fridge, the Digital 4-Rack Smoker has a digital control panel that lets you adjust the temperature, cooking time and the amount of smoke extremely precisely.

It offers two cooking methods – hot smoking and cold smoking. Typical temperatures for hot smoking range from 180 F to 250 F for cooking meats and fish.

Cold smoking is a longer process usually running at between 60 and 80 F. You can use it for curing hams, bacon, fish and so on. The smoker can also be used as a slow cooker or oven.

The unit has four adjustable racks which measure 11” x 13” each which means that it will smoke a considerable amount of food. Remind Yourself the Benefits of Electric Smoker

Using an electric smoker will impart a taste to your food that you just can’t get in any other form of cooking. If you are more concerned with how your food tastes and want something that isn’t bland and run of the mill, an electric smoker will achieve that objective.

Electric smokers cost less

If you compare the price of electric smokers against that of regular grills, you will see that you’ll save money with an electric smoker. They are also cheaper to run than charcoal or propane smokers. So you get great tasting food at less cost.

Electric smokers don’t need constant attention

They take longer to cook food, but they are set and forget. You don’t have to be constantly jumping up to attend to this and that, which gives you time to spend with your friends and family while the smoker gets on with the job.

There is a wide variety

Electric smokers come in a wide range of sizes, shapes, colors and so on. You can buy one which suits your kitchen and matches your décor.

Electric smokers can be multi-purpose

As mentioned earlier, you can buy an electric smoker which can both smoke and grill.

Points To Consider When Buying An Electric Smoker

The Size

You need to consider what you intend to use your smoker for. A small electric smokers will be able to cook enough food for between ten and fifteen people, so if you only need to cater for family and a few friends at the weekends a small one will do.

If, however, you are planning all-day barbeque for larger groups you will need a bigger model.

Some electric smokers are able to both smoke and grill. Some can only hot smoke, usually running at an even temperature of around 225 F, whereas others can cold smoke in addition at lower temperatures.

If you need the ability to do both, you will need one with – at the very least – a temperature control, but better still with a thermostat. If you only need to hot smoke, you don’t need a thermostat, so you should be able to find a model that is cheaper.

Place You Plan to Use It

Are you going to use it both indoors and outside? If you are going to use it outside, will you be using it in colder weather? If so, you will need a model with the maximum amount of insulation. Even so, if you use it in colder weather you will find that your smoking times will be longer.

However, if you are only going to use your smoker indoors, you will probably save some money by buying one made solely for indoor use. You can also get a counter top smoker, if you only need to smoke small quantities.

Construction Material

Aluminum? Stainless Steel? Power Coated? What’s best? Obviously, if you are planning on using your smoker in the kitchen, you want something that is aesthetically pleasing to look at since you spend a lot of time in there. This, of course, is subjective. Some people might prefer a powder coated model which is in keeping with the décor, while others may like the clean look of stainless steel or brushed aluminum.

A powder coated model is more likely to suffer from scratching if it gets knocked. For outdoor use stainless steel is probably a good bet. You need something durable, and if you are smoking in the yard while you’re at work, you have to consider that the weather might change and you get a sudden downpour. Stainless steel won’t be affected.

Double As A Grill

Some models – notably the Brinkmann – can also double as a grill. The Brinkmann is easily converted to a waist high grill. Click here to find more models fall into this category.

Obviously price is an important consideration. When you are first starting out with an electric smoker, it is probably a good idea to avoid spending too much money, especially if you plan on only occasional use. Best offset smoker under 1000 can cost as least at $50 and at max at $2,000 depending on the size, the type of fuel used, the brand and so on.

Ready to Go?

Now you have our recommendations for the top most popular smokers. From cheap and cheerful to what you might consider pretty expensive, they all have advantages and some limitations.

We can only repeat our earlier advice which is that if you are new to smoking, start off with something reasonably inexpensive until you get the hang of it.

When you are experimenting with different woods and different smoking times and temperatures, it is also a good idea to keep a “smoking log”. Forgive the pun! This way you can keep track of what you did and what you used, and you will be able to readily check back on your favorites.

a week, once a month?), how much food you need to smoke at any one time, and more.
